The Ćeman family
The beekiping bussiness runs in our family for more than 200 years. What separates us from other families involved in apiculture in this area, is that we have never stopped our honey production. There were wars, migrations, but non of our hives ever stayed empty, and bees, our most loyal friends, remained with us for centuries.
For instance, during the Second World War, the family was forced to leave the estate, but the head of our family Ibiš Ćeman, regardless of all that chaos, didn’t forget to hide one of the hives in the woods, nearby our house. This proved to be a very reasonable decision, since the house and the estate were burnt to the ground. That single surviving hive has ensured the ’bloodline’ of our bees remains uninteruppted for 200 years.
It is important to mention, that we never move our bees, thus they are fairly resistant to bee deseases. Also, we never insert other kinds or artificially generated queen bees into our hives. This ensures preservation of this particular healthy bee species that has already adjusted to climate conditions and sourroundings of northern Montenegro. As we all know, healthy bees lead to healthy honey. If chemicals were exploited to treat bee illnesses, the honey itself wouldn’t stay as pure and natural as it is in our hives.
Today, the Rahman Ćeman’s family can be proud of its ancestors, for building a firm base regarding the beekeeping business. We are delighted to say the tradition of natural honey production was successfully continued and hopefully will last for many centuries to come, and that, as the famous story tells, the river of honey will keep flowing from our hill house down to the rivers and streams of Montenegro.
